Jolene Abel Kiefer our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor died peacefully on April 2, 2011 just fifteen days short of her 80th birthday surrounded by her family.
She was born in Lewiston, Utah, on April 17, 1931 to Joseph Bromley and Sarah McMurdie Abel. She was the fourth daughter in a family of six girls. She grew up in Lewiston, graduated from North Cache High in 1949 and attended Utah State University. She mastered shorthand, typing, and other secretarial skills. She used those skills for the Utah State Engineers office and the Civil Engineering office at Utah State University.
While working in the Civil Engineering Department she met Fred William Kiefer, whom she married two years later on June 12, 1959 in the Logan LDS Temple. Together they celebrated nearly 52 years of marriage. They had two children, a daughter Karen Fujimoto (Blair) and son Gregory Kiefer (Wendy). They spent most of their married life in North Logan, Utah.
Jolene was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many callings throughout her life including positions in the Young Women’s Program and the Relief Society. She was a devoted visiting teacher and loyal friend to many. She was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her children and grandchildren. Jolene took great delight in her seven grandchildren; Sara, Madison, Logan, Ramsey, Rennon, Sadie, Amelia.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Jolene is survived by her sisters; Dawn Herzog, Barbara Knudsen, Janis Martindale. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters; Alverna Turner and Marie McVay.
A memorial service will be held Friday April 8, at noon at the North Logan Chapel, 1105 East 2100 North in North Logan. A viewing in her honor will be held Thursday night from 6-8 pm at Allen Mortuary 420 E. 1800 N. North Logan. There will be a viewing prior to the service from 10:30 am – 11:30 am at the North Logan Chapel. Internment will be at the Logan City Cemetery following Friday’s service.
